When Harley Davidson designed their popular Fat Bob® line of Super Glides, passenger comfort did not seem to be a top priority. It’s a great bike. But, maybe not so great if you’re a passenger. On many models, the passenger perch was about the size of a postage stamp.
There are plenty of ways to customize the bike, but most aftermarket passenger seats are nothing to write home about. What’s the point of spending money on a ho-hum seat?
If you’re going to upgrade the passenger perch, you might as well do it right.
Our Fat Bob® passenger seat is a lot better than any over-the-counter seat because it’s custom-engineered to fit your passenger.
Based on your passenger’s dimensions, we raise and widen the seat. Standard seat foam isn’t sturdy enough to provide the vertical support for this sort of rebuild. Instead of standard foam, we use a stiff, high density foam. High density foam is too rigid for comfort. So, to soften the seat we drape the support foam with a cushy, lower density foam. The double layer provides the necessary support without sacrificing comfort.
To support your passenger’s lower back, we recommend a streamlined backrest. It’s also made to fit. For additional comfort we cut a gel pad for the seat and/or backrest. Our gel pads are manufactured from hospital grade padding material; much better than the standard Butt Buffer.
A custom passenger perch from Mac’s costs a little more. But, it’s worth every penny. Especially on those long Sunday rides.
